The Hon. Sean B. Perkins is a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on May 5, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. B. Pennie Millender.
Perkins earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wayne State University. He spent the next several years working as an assembly line worker, a hi-lo driver, a journeyman, and a pipefitter for Woodhaven Stamping before completing a J.D. at Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2012.
After graduating from law school, Perkins entered into private practice, working as an attorney in the Perkins Law Group. During his tenure there, he handled criminal, personal injury, and bankruptcy cases. Perkins supplemented his practice with service as a UAW Benefits Representative at the Ford Motor Company.
His memberships have included the Wayne County Defense Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.
At the time of his appointment, Perkins resided in Detroit, Michigan, with his wife, LaTrice.
