Hon. Sean P. Finn is a judge for the 17th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hickenlooper in 2018.
The 17th Judicial District includes Adams and Broomfield Counties.
During his judicial tenure, his docket has primarily consisted of criminal cases.
Prior to joining the bench, Finn prosecuted felony crimes as a chief trial deputy district attorney with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office since 2010. He has also taught criminal procedure, evidence, and trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at Colorado Law.
Before that, he was a senior deputy district attorney with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Finn received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1997. He went on to complete a J.D. at Loyola Law School in 2001. Finn was admitted to practice in Colorado (2003) and California (2001).
After graduating from law school, he began his legal career in private practice, handling commercial law at O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles and Davis, Graham & Stubbs in Denver. Finn also served as a law clerk for the Hon. Robert Russel on the Colorado Court of Appeals.
He has conducted legal training in Colorado, including a course on Effective Lawyering with WebEx.
