The Hon. Stephen C. Steinberg (Ret.) was First Justice of the Dukes County Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Weld in 1996. Steinberg retired in 2011.
Steinberg initially served as an associate justice of the Probate and Family Court in Plymouth County. He was appointed first justice in Dukes County in 2002.
Prior to joining the bench, Steinberg had practiced as a partner at Reservitz, Steinberg & Belinsky, P.C. since 1970. During that time, he also worked for two years as city solicitor for the City of Brockton (1970 to 1972). Steinberg began his legal career working as an assistant clerk magistrate with the Brockton District Court (1966 to 1970).
He received a B.A. from Yeshiva University in 1963. Steinberg then completed an LL.B. from Boston University School of Law in 1966.
His memberships included the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Plymouth County Bar Association, the Plymouth District Bar Association, and the Pilgrim Foundation (trustee).
In 2010, Steinberg received the Frank Powers Award from the Plymouth District Bar Association and the Brass Gavel Award from the Plymouth County Bar Association.
After retiring from the bench, he joined Boston Area Mediation Services as a mediator and arbitrator.
