Hon. Stephen D. Michael (Ret.) was a judge for the Jackson County Court of Common Pleas (Probate and Juvenile Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench in 1990. Michael retired in 2020.
He completed a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law. Michael was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1979.
Prior to joining the judiciary, he worked for eleven years as a private practice attorney in Jackson County.
His memberships included the Ohio State Bar Association, the Jackson County Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Michael also sat on the Hocking Valley Community Residential Treatment Center Executive Committee and Program Committee, the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Victims of Crime Task Force, and the Ohio Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges Committee to the Governor’s Office of Criminal Justice.
In 2012, Michael was appointed by former Governor John Kasich to serve as a member of the Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice.
