Hon. Susan L. Bailey is a judge for the East Central Judicial District of North Dakota. She was elected to the bench in 2014.
The East Central Judicial District includes Cass, Steele, and Traill Counties.
Prior to her election, Bailey was an administrative law judge with the North Dakota Office of Administrative Hearings (2006 to 2014) and also served as a municipal judge for Tower City (2009 to 2014), West Fargo (2004 to 2014), and Horace (2004 to 2014).
In addition, she spent five years an assistant state’s attorney with the Cass County State’s Attorney's Office (2001 to 2006), and she was a former associate at The Tax Law Office, P.L.L.P. (2000 to 2001) and Camrud, Maddock, Olson & Larson, Ltd. (1999 to 2000).
She received a B.S. in mathematics and psychology (1986) and an M.A. in counseling and guidance (1988) from the University of North Dakota. Bailey went on to complete a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997. She was admitted to practice in North Dakota (1997), Minnesota (1999), and the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota (1999).
After graduating from law school, Bailey began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Rodney Webb with the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota (1997 to 1999).
She was president of the Cass County Bar Association and sat on the West Fargo School Board.
