The Hon. Tanya Bullock is a judge for the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. She was elected to the seat by the Virginia General Assembly in 2022.
The 2nd Judicial Circuit includes Accomack, Northampton, and Virginia Beach.
Bullock began her judicial career as a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in 2012. During that time, she served as chief judge of the court beginning in 2014.
Prior to joining the bench, Bullock was in private practice alongside her sister, Wanda Cooper, at Bullock & Cooper, PC since 2005. At the firm, her areas of practice focused on criminal defense and federal civil litigation, including foreclosure rescue scams. Her experience in foreclosure rescue scams led to her assisting in the passing of the state’s first law involving the growing issue in 2008. Bullock helped establish the firm following a stint as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, where she began her legal career.
She received a bachelor’s degree in political science (criminal justice) from North Carolina State University. Bullock then completed a J.D. at Regent University School of Law in 2000.
Among her accolades, Bullock received the Partners in Education Award from Virginia Beach Public Schools, the Urban League Silver Star Legacy Award, the Outstanding Professional Woman Award, and the Trailblazers Under 40 Award from the National Bar Association (2011).
She has served on the board of the Association of District Court Judges and the Virginia Association of District Court Judges (past secretary). Bullock was also appointed by the Virginia Supreme Court to serve as a member of the Committee on District Courts.
A native of Virginia Beach, she attended Bayside High School.
