The Hon. Thomas S. Barrett is an associate justice for the Attleboro District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Paul Cellucci in 2000, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Antone Aguiar.
Over the course of his judicial career, Barrett has also held assignments as an associate justice for the Nantucket District Court.
Barrett earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in 1977. He then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1980.
After graduating from law school, Barrett entered into private practice, where he handled civil and criminal cases as well as real estate and probate matters. He started as an associate at Fleming & Langlois, rising through the ranks to become a partner. Barrett then became a partner at Fleming, Barrett & Phelan in 1995. He worked in that capacity for four years before moving to the Law Offices of Joseph Phelan.
His memberships have included the Board of Directors of the Cohasset Education Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that raises money for the Cohasset public school system.
Barrett was a resident of Cohasset at the time of his appointment. He is a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve (1972 to 1978).
