The Hon. Toni A. Bean is a judge for the Suffolk County District Court, Sixth District in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. Judge Bean was originally appointed to the District Court bench by former Suffolk County Executive, Steven A. Levy in June 2004 and was then elected to the seat in the following November 2004 election. Judge Bean has maintained her judicial position in the subsequent 2010 and 2016 elections.
Judge Bean received her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1981. She went on to earn her J.D. from Howard University School of Law in 1985.
She began her legal career at the law firm of Walker and Bailey, where she practiced personal injury litigation for three years. Then, in 1988, she left the firm to join Waxman and Wincott P.C., continuing in her practice of personal injury litigation until 2002. At that time, Bean entered into solo practice. She would remain at her own law firm until her appointment to the District Court in 2004.
Her memberships have included the National Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, the Suffolk Women’s Bar Association, the Amistad Black Bar Association of Suffolk County, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
