Hon. Tonya Alexander is a judge for the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Arkansas. She was elected to the bench in 2016, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Victor Hill (Ret.).
The 2nd Judicial Circuit includes Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Mississippi, and Poinsett Counties.
Prior to her election, Alexander managed her own private solo practice for sixteen years. Over the course of her legal career, she also served as a magistrate court judge.
Alexander received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1991. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arkansas School of Law.
She was admitted to practice in Arkansas (1995) and Tennessee (1998).
After graduating from law school, Alexander began her legal career as an attorney at East Arkansas Legal Services, where she was assigned to the West Helena Office. Then, in 1996, she became a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Olly Neal with the Arkansas Court of Appeals.
Alexander has served as a commissioner of the Arkansas Public Defender Commission.
She was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and was raised in Altheimer.
