The Hon. W. Fletcher Sams is a judge for the Griffin Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Sonny Perdue in August 2010.
Sams has served as the Administrative Judge for the Sixth Judicial District of Georgia.
Prior to his appointment, Sams served as a judge for the Fayette County State Court, a position to which he was named in 1997. Before that, he was the District Attorney for the Griffin Judicial Circuit as well as an assistant district attorney for the Waycross Judicial Circuit.
Sams earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rhodes College in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law in 1979.
He is admitted to practice in Georgia (1979), the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (1979), the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (1979), the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia (1982), and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia (1983).
After graduating from law school, Sams entered into private practice. He also spent time as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, a Special Master for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, and a City Attorney for the Town of Brooks.
