The Hon. Walter L. Gorelick is a judge for the Tulare County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Tulare County Municipal Court by former Governor Jerry Brown in 1980. He was subsequently elevated to the Superior Court as a result of the court's unification in 1998.
Judge Gorelick graduated with his B.A. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1967. He went on to earn his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1970.
Gorelick accepted a position with the Tulare County Public Defender's Office in 1971 after graduating from law school. During his nine years with the P.D.'s office, Gorelick would rise to the rank of chief public defender in 1978. Two years later he would receive the call to the Municipal Court.
In 1977, Gorelick became a certified criminal law specialist by the California State Board of Legal Specialization.
Gorelick has written several books on a variety of subjects pertaining to California law.
His grandparents immigrated to the United States from Eastern Europe prior to the Nazis occupation during World War II. Gorelick's mother, Dr. Molly C. Gorelick, would obtain her Ph.D. from UCLA and go on to become an expert in child development. She was also an accomplished author and artist.
