Hon. Whitney J. Brown is an associate justice of the Westborough District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker in 2021. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert B. Calagione (Ret.).
Brown received a B.S. from the University of Bridgeport in 1986. She then completed a J.D. at the New England School of Law in 1989.
After law school, Brown began her legal career as a law clerk at Finneran & Associates, P.C. before becoming an associate at Kezer & Kezer in 1990. She remained in her practice there until 1993.
It was at that time, Brown became first assistant clerk magistrate in the Middlesex Superior Court. During her tenure in that position, she served as an appointed member of the Supreme Judicial Court’s Judicial Education Board and a member of the MassCourt E-Filing Committee, and chairperson for the Clerks Education Subcommittee.
In 2005, Brown joined the Gardner District Court as a clerk magistrate and also served as an acting clerk magistrate for the Winchendon District Court beginning in 2011. During that time, she served as an appointed member of the Trial Court Complaint Standards Working Group and the Supreme Judicial Court’s working group for District Court Jury Waiver Procedures and its Court Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Criminal Procedure, where she served two three year terms.
Brown also served as a member of the Executive Board of the Association of Magistrates and Assistant Clerks, the Trial Court Security Committee, the Trial Court Domestic Violence Education Task Force, the Supreme Judicial Court Search Committee for the Court Administrator of the Massachusetts Trial Court, the Massachusetts Trial Court Strategic Plan 2.0 (team leader), the Clerk’s Advisory Committee to the Chief Justice of the District Court, and the Judicial Administration Certificate Program for Court Leaders.
Brown, a native of New Jersey, moved to Massachusetts to attend law school.
