The Hon. William D. McFadyen, III is a judge for the 3B Judicial District Court of North Carolina. He was elected to the bench in 2012.
The 3B Judicial District includes Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Counties.
Prior to his election, McFadyen was a partner alongside his father, W. David McFadyen, Jr., at Valentine & McFadyen, P.C. since 2006. At the firm, his practice focused on criminal, juvenile, and civil law matters. Before that, McFadyen handled civil law and litigation matters at the Kellum Law Firm in New Bern, where he began his legal career.
He received a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. McFadyen then completed a J.D. at Appalachian School of Law in 2005. He was admitted to practice in North Carolina (2006) and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina (2006).
McFadyen was born and raised in New Bern, North Carolina, where he attended New Bern Senior High School. His father served as the 3B Judicial District Attorney. He and his wife, Erica, have one son and a labrador retriever named Scout. In his free time, McFadyen enjoys music, boating, reading, watching college sports, and biking. He has also coached and refereed youth sports.
McFadyen is registered as a Republican.
