The Hon. William Dale Young (deceased) is a former judge for the 5th Judicial District Circuit Court of Tennessee in Blount County. He joined the bench in 1985. Young retired in January 2011. He passed away four months later on May 21, 2011.
Prior to his judicial career, Young was house counsel for Blount National Bank Holding Company. Before that, he served as Chief of Staff/Deputy Governor for former Governor Winfield Dunn. Active with the Republican party, Young served early in his political career as chairman for the Eisenhower campaign and the Howard Baker, Jr. Senate campaign. He went on to serve as manager of the East Tennessee campaign for Dunn’s run for Governor. Young then served on the transition staff for Governor Dunn before becoming his Chief of Staff in 1970.
He began his legal career in private practice at Dunn, Felknor, Young, Paine & DeLozier. Young later served as an assistant district attorney general for the 4th Judicial Circuit.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Maryville University. Young then completed a J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law.
He was active with various boards and commissions, including the Blount County Quarterly Court.
Young attended Maryville High School.
He was registered as a Republican.
