The Hon. William E. Alexa (Ret.) served as a judge for the Porter County Superior Court in Indiana. Alexa was appointed to the bench by former Governor Frank O’Bannon on December 2, 2002, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Thomas Weber. He retired on October 3, 2017.
Prior to his appointment, Alexa was an attorney in private practice, supplementing his practice with service as a member of the Indiana State Senate (1989 to 2002). Before that, he spent time as the chief deputy prosecuting attorney for the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office (1975 to 1978).
Alexa earned a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1973. He was admitted to practice in Indiana (1973), the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
Raised in Berwin, Illinois, Alexa has lived in Valparaiso for more than fifty years. His wife, Joyce, retired as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County.
