The Hon. William H. Seals, Jr., is a judge for Seat 6, at-large, of the South Carolina Circuit Court. He was elected to the bench by the South Carolina General Assembly on February 11, 2009, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. James E. Lockemy.
Prior to his election, Seals was a sole practitioner in his own private practice, a law firm he opened in 1995. He specialized in civil litigation, supplementing his practice with service as a judge for the Marion Municipal Court.
Seals earned a bachelor’s degree from Charleston Southern University in 1982. He then completed a J.D. at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, in 1990.
After graduating from law school, Seals entered into private practice, working alongside James E. Brogdon in Marion.
His memberships have included the Marion County Bar Association, the Marion Rotary Club, and the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates. He has also been involved with the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors of the Marion Arts Council, and the Ethics Committee of the Marion Memorial Hospital.
He is a recipient of the Outstanding Public Service Award from the City of Marion.
Seals was born in Marion County, where he graduated from Pee Dee Academy. He and his wife, Phoebe, have one son and one German shepherd. The family has a farm in the Zion Community of Marion County and attends the Church of the Advent Episcopal Church in Marion. When not presiding over legal proceedings, Seals enjoys NASCAR and canoeing the swamps of the Little Pee Dee River as well as bow hunting and duck hunting.
