The Hon. Yvette Durant is a judge for the Sierra County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2016. She filled the vacancy created by the death of the Hon. John P. Kennelly (deceased).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Durant received her B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1991.
After graduating from law school, Durant practiced as an associate at the Seattle law firm of Ashbaugh Beal from 1991 to 1993. After relocating to Truckee, California, Durant practiced briefly at Tonon and Associates before going into solo practice in 1999.
She remained in that capacity until being selected to serve as a court commissioner in 2011. During her tenure as a commissioner, she served for both the Sierra and Nevada County Superior Courts, handling matters involving traffic, family law, AB1058 child support, domestic violence, civil harassment, juvenile dependency, criminal misdemeanors, and small claims appeals.
She also served as the district representative on the California Court Commissioner's Association for Sierra and Nevada Counties and was a member of the AB1058 Education Advisory Committee.
