The Hon. Zia M. Faruqui is a magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He was appointed to the bench on September 14. 2020.
Prior to his appointment, Faruqui served for twelve years as an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Offices in St. Louis and Washington, D.C. During that time, he prosecuted cases involving terrorist use of cryptocurrency, North Korean weapons proliferation, darknet sites involved in child exploitation, and theft of antiquities.
Before his work as a federal prosecutor, Faruqui was a litigation associate at Willkie Farr in Washington, D.C. (2004 to 2008). He also taught as an adjunct professor at Harris-Stowe State University.
Faruqui received a B.A. from Georgetown University in 2001. He then completed a J.D. at Georgetown Law School in 2004.
