The Hon. Aaron S. Haas (Ret.) served as a judge for the 285h (Civil) District Court in Bexar County, Texas. Haas was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018. He resigned on December 31, 2022, and opened his own private practice as a private mediator and arbitrator.
Prior to his election, Haas was a partner at Salmon & Haas, a law firm he joined in 2013. During his tenure there, he specialized in immigration law matters, representing hundreds of clients in applications for permanent residence, naturalization, deportation defense, DACA, special immigrant visas, and asylum.
Haas earned a B.A. in history from the University of Chicago in 2000. Then, in 2006, he completed a J.D. at Harvard Law School. As a law student, Haas was an editor of the Harvard Journal of International Law and a member of the Community Enterprise Project.
He is Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
After graduating from law school, Haas began his legal career as an attorney at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid. He worked in that capacity for four years, eventually leaving to work as the founding director of the Immigrant Rights Clinic at the Washington and Lee University School of Law.
His memberships have included the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the National Association of Consumer Advocates, the National Immigration Project, and the National Lawyers Guild.
He is registered as a Democrat.
