Judge Daniel J. Tolan - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Daniel J. Tolan is a judge for the Polk County Circuit Court in the Tenth Judicial District of Wisconsin. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Scott Walker in 2017, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Molly E. GaleWyrick (Ret.).

Prior to his appointment, Tolan had worked as an assistant district attorney in Polk County since 2009. He also served as an assistant district attorney in Burnett and Washburn Counties.

Before becoming a prosecutor, Tolan managed his own law firm, Tolan Legal Services, in Luck, where his practice included family law, divorce and child custody, wills and probate, and real estate matters. He also handled private work for the Polk County Public Defender’s Office and acted as a Guardian ad Litem in child custody actions, guardianships, and protective placements.

Tolan received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1992. He went on to complete a J.D. at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 1996. Tolan was admitted to practice in Wisconsin (1997) and Minnesota (1996).

A lifelong resident of Luck, Wisconsin, he resided there with his wife, Susan, at the time of his appointment.
