Judge Derbha H. Jones - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Derbha Jones is a judge for the 467th District Court in Denton County, Texas. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott on December 7, 2020.

Jones received a B.S. in radiologic technology from Northeast Louisiana University. After working for several years as an x-ray technologist, she went on to earn a J.D. from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law) in 2002.

After graduating from law school, Jones entered into private practice, where she would serve as an advocate for abused and neglected children until her appointment to the bench.

She is board certified in Family Law and Child Welfare Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Jones is also a Child Welfare Law Specialist with the National Association of Counsel for children and a National Certified Guardian with the Center for Guardian Certification.

Her memberships include the State Bar of Texas’ Child Protection Section (board member) and its Family Law Section, the Texas Association of Family Law Specialists, the Denton County Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Association. Jones is also a Fellow of the State Bar College of Texas. In addition, she has served as a board member of the Denton Housing Authority and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.

Jones, who was born in Monroe, Louisiana, is married and has three children. She and her husband also serve as foster parents to a child, whom they hope to adopt.

She is a registered Republican.
