Judge Gerard M. Bigley - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Gerard M. Bigley (Ret.) served as a judge for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. Bigley was elected to the bench in 1977. He retired in 2004 and continued to preside as a senior judge.

Bigley earned a B.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961. He then completed a J.D. at Duquesne University School of Law in 1970.

After graduating from law school, Bigley began his legal career as a legal advisor for the City of Pittsburgh Police Department. He served in that capacity until 1977, at which time he became an Assistant District Attorney for the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.

His memberships have included the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania College of the Judiciary.

Bigley is the father of the Hon. Kelly Eileen Bigley, a judge for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. She joined the bench in 2007.
