Judge Heather Gray: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Heather Gray is a judge for the Vermont Superior Court. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Phil Scott on December 20, 2021.

Over the course of her judicial career, Gray has presided over criminal cases in Windsor County.

Prior to her appointment, Gray was a traffic safety resource prosecutor with the Vermont Department of State’s Attorneys and Sheriffs, a position to which she was named in 2017. Before that, she spent nine years as a deputy state’s attorney with the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Gray earned a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies from Notre Dame College. She then completed a four-year clerkship before receiving a license to practice law in 2005.

After her admittance into the Vermont Bar, Gray began her legal career as an associate at Clark Werner & Flynn. In that capacity, she handled civil and family law matters in Burlington.

Gray has been involved with the Ronald McDonald House, the Woodstock Community Food Shelf, David’s House, and the Chips Teen Center. She has also served as an instructor and trainer at the Vermont Police Academy.

She was a resident of Quechee, Vermont, at the time of her appointment.
