Judge Jacqueline L. Alarcón - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Jacqueline L. Alarcón is a judge for the 4th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon in Multnomah County. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown on May 24, 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jerry B. Hodson (Ret.).

She presides in the Family Law Department.

Prior to her appointment, Alarcón was a partner at the Yates Family Law PC (2018 to 2022). She joined the firm as an associate in 2012. Alarcón also served as a judge pro tem in Washington and Multnomah Counties and handled family law matters at the Hohbach Law Firm (2011 to 2012).

She received a B.A. in politics and French from Willamette University College of Liberal Arts in 2007. Alarcón went on to complete a J.D. at Willamette University College of Law in 2010. While a law student, she was a legal intern for the law school's Legal Clinic (2008 to 2009) and a law clerk at Morgan & Associates (2008 to 2010).

Alarcón is a past president of the Multnomah Bar Association and Oregon Women Lawyers. She also sat as a board member of Basic Rights Oregon and Families en Acción and was chair of the Oregon State Bar Advisory Committee for Diversity and Inclusion.

Alarcón is credited with the creation of the East County Judicial Settlement Conference in an effort to support immigrants and people of color in East Multnomah County by providing low-cost mediation services. In addition, she provided pro bono legal assistance through Legal Aid Services of Oregon and was a volunteer during night clinic hours at the St. Andrew Legal Clinic.

She received the Paul J. De Muniz Professionalism Award from the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association.

Alarcón, who was raised in El Salvador, attended high school in Oregon.
