Biography

The Hon. John J. McClendon, III is a judge for the 137th District Court of Texas in Lubbock County. He was elected to the bench in 2010.


Prior to his election, McClendon was an attorney in private practice, specializing in bankruptcy, business, real estate, and renewable energy law. Before that, he spent time with the Lubbock County District Attorney's Office. During his tenure there, he held assignments as chief felony prosecutor for the 237th District Court and chief prosecutor for the South Plains Auto Theft Task Force.


McClendon earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law in 1994.


After graduating from law school, McClendon clerked for the 7th District Court of Appeals of Texas. He then accepted a position with the State Bar of Texas, where he was tasked with analyzing new and pending legislation.


McClendon was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, where he attended Lubbock High School.


He is a registered Republican.
