Judge Kenneth R. Farley - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Kenneth R. Farley is an associate district judge for the McCurtain County District Court (District 17) in Oklahoma. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mary Fallin in April 2013, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. Michael D. DeBerry to the district judge of the Seventeenth Judicial District.

During his judicial tenure, Farley has handled the Divorce, Probate, Juvenile, and Criminal Dockets. He has also presided over the Criminal and Civil Jury Trial Dockets as well as other cases assigned by the presiding district judge.

Prior to his appointment, Farley was a private practice attorney in Idabel since 1987. His areas of practice included bankruptcy and real estate litigation. In addition, Farley represented the towns of Idabel, Haworth, Garvin, and Wright City.

Before that, he was in private practice in Norman, Oklahoma (1981 to 1982), and was a former assistant district attorney in McCurtain County (1983 to 1986).

Farley received an A.A. from Eastern Oklahoma State College (1973) and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma (1975). He then worked for the Donrey Media Group and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, before completing a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1981.

He was admitted to practice in Oklahoma (1981), the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma (1982), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma (1987), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit (1981).

His civic involvement included the Idabel Chamber of Commerce, the Idabel Lions Club, and the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign War.

Farley attended Haworth High School in Haworth, Oklahoma, and is also a graduate of the Oklahoma State School of Technical Training (1967). After that, he served in the United States Navy (1967 to 1971). While in the military, Farley served aboard the USS Proteus (AS-19) and the USS Jason (AR-8). He was also stationed at the U.S. Naval Support Activity in DaNang, Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and a commendation for his service at the U.S. Naval Support in DeNang.

Farley and his wife, Deborah, a pediatric advanced practice nurse, have one daughter.
