Judge Laura S. Farris - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Laura S. Farris is an associate district judge for the Creek County District Court (District 24) in Oklahoma. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Kevin Stitt in 2020.

Prior to her appointment, Farris spent twenty years as an assistant district attorney with the Twenty-Fourth Prosecutorial District, which includes Creek and Okfuskee Counties. During her first ten years, she handled the Juvenile Deprived and Delinquent Dockets, developing expertise in juvenile law. This experience led Farris to conduct law enforcement courses on the subject. At the end of her tenure, she prosecuted complex investigations and trials for Creek and Okfuskee Counties.

In addition to her cases, Farris is credited with implementing the Mental Health Court Program and the child abuse multidisciplinary teams for the Twenty-Fourth District as well as developing a Personal Recognizance Bond Program, allowing indigent defendants to be released without cash bail. Her credits also include creating a Gang Task Force to allow information sharing among state, federal, and tribal agencies; creating a local cell phone forensic center through collaboration with local departments; and creating the first internet crimes against children program in Creek County with the help of a local police department.

Farris received a B.S. from the University of Tulsa in 1994. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1999.

She was admitted to practice in Oklahoma (1999); the United States District Court for the Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of Oklahoma; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Farris is a native of Bristow, Oklahoma.
