Judge Michael C. Sullivan: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Michael C. Sullivan (Ret.) served as a judge for the 11th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon. Sullivan was appointed to the bench by former Governor Neil ​​Goldschmidt in 1988. He retired in 2012.

The 11th Judicial District encompasses Deschutes County.

Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis in 1970. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law in 1973.

After graduating from law school, Sullivan began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for the Lane County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1977, at which time he was named District Attorney for Jefferson County.

His memberships have included the Central Oregon Bar Association (president), the Oregon District Attorneys Association (president), and the Oregon Circuit Court Judges Association (president). He has also been involved with the Oregon National Guard.

He is a recipient of the Raise Me Up Lifetime Service Award from the Deschutes County Family Preservation & Support Initiative.
