Judge Michelle L. Ressa - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Michelle L. Ressa is a commissioner for the Spokane County Superior Court in Washington. She was appointed to the bench in 2007.

At the time of her appointment to the Spokane County bench, Ressa was presiding as a commissioner for the Grant County Superior Court, a position she has held for one year.

Ressa received a B.A. in political science from the University of Washington in 1992. She went on to complete a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1996.

After law school, Ressa was appointed by former Governor Chris Gregoire to serve as an assistant attorney general with the Office of the Attorney General in Washington. During her ten-year tenure in that position, Ressa gained expertise in the areas of dependency, the Unified Family Court, and licensing. She remained with the Attorney General’s Office until becoming a court commissioner for the Grant County Superior Court.

Her memberships have included the Superior Court Judges’ Association Family and Juvenile Law Committee and the Washington State Court Improvement Program Steering Committee (co-chair).

Ressa is a native of Spokane.
