Judge Monique Diaz: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Monique Diaz is a judge for the 150th (Civil) District Court in Bexar County, Texas. She was elected to the bench in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.

Prior to her election, Diaz was an attorney in her own private practice, a law firm she opened in 2017. In that capacity, she handled family, business, criminal, real estate, asset protection, administrative, civil, and appellate matters for low-income families, victims of domestic violence, civil litigants, and small businesses. Before that, she spent time as a principal partner at Maldonado Diaz, where she represented municipalities and government entities in litigation and appeals (2015 to 2017).

Diaz earned a B.A. in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006. She then completed a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law in 2009.

After graduating from law school, Diaz began her legal career as an attorney at the Pfullmann Law Firm, where she specialized in family, criminal, and probate matters for low-income clientele. The following year, she became a principal partner at Morales & Diaz. She worked in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to become lead counsel for the Family Law Department at the Jeff Davis Law Firm.

Her memberships have included the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, the Board of the Maestro Entrepreneur Center, the Bexar County Juvenile Board, and the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas. She has also served as president of the St. Mary's School of Law Family Law Association, and she has co-founded the Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence.

Diaz was born and raised in San Antonio. Her mother is Puerto Rican, and her father is Dominican.

She is registered as a Democrat.
