Judge Paul J. Hanley - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Paul J. Hanley is an associate judge for the Baltimore County Circuit Court in the Third Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Maritn O’Malley in 2014.

Prior to his appointment, Hanley presided as a master in juvenile matters for the Baltimore County Circuit Court since 1995. In addition, he was a partner at Hanley & Hanley (1983 to 2007) and spent one year in solo practice at his own law firm (2007 to 2008).

He received a B.A. in history and political science from Loyola College of Maryland in 1978. Hanley went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1982.

His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, and the Dissenters Law Club. Hanley also served on the Advisory Board of the Paralegal Program at the Community College of Baltimore County, Dundalk Campus.

From a civic standpoint, he was involved with Boy Scout Troop 35 (volunteer and past Troop Committee chair), the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick (Towson Lodge #469), and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Hanley is a member of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
