Judge Peter L. Grimm: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Peter L. Grimm (Ret.) served as a judge for the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. Grimm was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tommy Thompson in 1991. He retired at the conclusion of his term on July 31, 2022.

Prior to his appointment, Grimm was the District Attorney for Fond du Lac County, a position to which he was named in 1988.

Grimm earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1981.

He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin (1981), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin (1981), and the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin (1981).

After graduating from law school, Grimm began his legal career as an assistant state public defender for the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office in Kenosha County and Fond du Lac County. He served in that capacity until 1984, at which time he entered into private practice.
