Judge R. Curtis Conover - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. R. Curtis Conover is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Kitzhaber in 2011.

The 2nd Judicial District encompasses Lane County.

Prior to his appointment, Conover was a litigation attorney for Liberty Mutual Group, a position to which he was named in 2000. Before that, he spent time as an attorney at Jaqua & Wheatley in Eugene (1998 to 2000), supplementing his practice with service as a judge pro tem for the Florence Municipal Court and the Cottage Grove Municipal Court.

Conover earned a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University in 1985. He then completed a J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School in 1988. He has been admitted to practice in Oregon (1988), Colorado (1991), and the United States District Court for the District of Oregon.

After graduating from law school, Conover began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for the Marion County District Attorney’s Office in Oregon. He served in that capacity until 1994, at which time he entered into private practice at the Law Office of Robert E. Franz, Jr. Then, in 1995, Conover resumed his role as a deputy district attorney, this time at the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.

Born and raised in Riverside, California, Conover attended Polytechnic High School. He was a resident of Eugene, Oregon, at the time of his appointment. He and his wife, Bernadette, have two children.
