Judge Robert S. Bain - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Robert S. Bain is a judge for the 14th Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown on February 8, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael Newman.

The 14th Judicial District encompasses Josephine County.

Bain earned a bachelor’s degree in English and history from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in teaching (history) from Southern Oregon University. He also completed a J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law.

After graduating from law school, Bain entered into private practice. He specialized in criminal and juvenile cases until 2006, at which time he became a teacher for North Valley High School. Then, in 2007, Bain returned to private practice. He worked in that capacity until his appointment to the bench.

Raised in Josephine County, Bain attended Hidden Valley High School. He was a resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, at the time of his appointment.
