Biography

Hon. Sheila D. Stinson is a district judge for the Oklahoma County District Court (District 7) in Oklahoma. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Kevin Stitt in July 2020.

During her judicial tenure, Stinson has presided over both the Civil and Criminal Dockets.

She first joined the bench as a special judge in Oklahoma County in 2017, after which time she presided over a family and domestic docket. Stinson later served as the Chief District Judge of the Oklahoma County Juvenile Divison.

Prior to beginning her judicial career, she was the owner and managing member of the Stinson Law Group since 2014. During that same time, Stinson taught as an adjunct professor at Oklahoma City University School of Law (2015 to 2017). Before opening her practice, she practiced as an associate at Kirk & Chaney, PLLC and Walker, Ferguson & Ferguson.

She received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1999. Stinson went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2002. While a law student, she served as a law clerk to the Hon. Gary Lumpkin with the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. Stinson was also a member of the Oklahoma Law Review.

Her memberships have included the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma Judicial Conference (treasurer), and the Oklahoma County Bar Association (past president).

From a civic standpoint, Stinson was on the University of Central Oklahoma Foundation Board of Trustees and was involved with the Downtown Oklahoma City Exchange Club and the Rotary Club of North Oklahoma City (past president). She is also a member of Leadership Oklahoma City, Class of XXXIII.

Stinson was named Judge of the Year by the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Family Law Section (2018) and is the recipient of the Beacon Award from the Oklahoma County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and the Journal Record Leadership in Law Award.

She is a native of Boise City, Oklahoma. Stinson and her husband, Preston, have two children.
