Judge Thomas Anthony Adams - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Thomas Anthony Adams is a Presiding Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court, Appellate Term in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was designated to the position in 2018 by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. Since his election to the Supreme Court in 2012, Justice Adams has also served as an Administrative Judge in the Tenth District beginning in 2013.

Before joining the Supreme Court, Justice Adams was appointed by former Governor George Pataki to serve as a judge for the New York State Court of Claims in 2007, a position he would hold until 2011. He also served as an Acting Justice for the Nassau County Supreme Court from 2007 to 2011.

His judicial career began in 1988 when he was elected to serve as a Nassau County District Court Judge. Five years later, Justice Adams then began his first stint as a Nassau County Supreme Court Justice when he was elected to the position in 1993. He would serve in that position, until being elevated by former Governor George Pataki to the Appellate Division of that Court in 2001.

Justice Adams received his B.A. from Elizabethtown College in 1970. He went on to earn his J.D. from the New England School of Law in 1973

Adams began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in 1973. Then, in 1981, he became a law secretary for the Hon. Marvin I. Goodman with the Nassau County Court. Adams would maintain that position until being elected to the District Court in 1988.

He received the Charles A. Rapallo and Justice Antonin Scalia Award from the Columbian Lawyers Association, First Department in 2018.

Justice Adams is a longtime resident of Rockville Centre. His daughter, the Hon. Suzanne J. Adams, is a judge for the Kings County Family Court.
