Judge Timothy G. Kerns: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Timothy G. Kerns is a judge for the 19th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Ritter on January 1, 2011.

The 19th Judicial District encompasses Weld County.

Prior to his appointment, Kerns was a judge for the Weld County Court, a position to which he was named in 2007. Before that, he was a partner at Crespin, Kerns & Furman and Furman, Kerns & Bauer, handling domestic relations, dependency and neglect, and civil matters in Fort Morgan, Erie, and Boulder (1996 to 2007).

Kerns earned a bachelor’s degree in history, political science, and French from Central Methodist College in 1991. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1994.

After graduating from law school, Kerns began his legal career as general counsel for a title company in St. Charles, Missouri. He worked in that capacity until 1995, at which time he began providing pro-bono legal services through Lend-a-Lawyer in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
