Judge Trevor L. Atkin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Trevor L. Atkin (Ret.) was a judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Steve Sisolak in 2019 and subsequently lost his bid for the seat in the November 2020 election. His term expired in January 2021.

Atkin received a B.S. from Arizona State University in 1984. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1987.

After law school, he joined Edwards, Hunt, Hale & Hansen, where he practiced as an associate until being named a partner in 1991. Then, in 2004, he became the founding partner at Atkin, Winner & Sherrod. While there, he managed the firm’s civil litigation practice, client marketing and relations, as well as the day-to-day operations of the firm. His areas of practice included insurance, commercial litigation, and general liability cases. Atkin remained with the firm until his appointment to the bench.

After leaving the bench, Atkin became a neutral with Advanced Resolution Management.

He has provided pro bono legal services for the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and participated in the State Bar Mentorship Program. He was also a board member of the Justice League of Nevada.

Atkins taught as an adjunct legal instructor with the University of Nevada from 1994 to 1996.

His memberships have included the American Board of Trial Advocates, Defense Research Institute, Nevada State Bar Fee Dispute Panel, Nevada Foundation (trustee), and Variety Day Home (trustee).

He is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada.
