Judge Vincent J. Martorana - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Vincent J. Martorana is a justice for the Suffolk County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was initially elected to the Suffolk County District Court in 2012. Then, in 2018, he was appointed to the Suffolk County Supreme Court by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Martorana earned a B.A. from Queens College at the City University of New York in 1971. He then completed a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law in 1976.

He began his legal career as a court officer for the New York State Unified Court System in 1974. Four years later, he accepted a position as law secretary for the Hon. Frank S. Gannon.

However, his time with the New York State Unified Court System would be brief. Martorana left the public sector in 1979. He first joined the Law Office of Bert W. Subin, where he practiced until 1982. He then became a partner at Martorana & Montiglio. He worked in that capacity for two years, eventually leaving to start his own private practice.

While in private practice, Martorana also served as a grievance mediator for the Second Judicial Department of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York and as a member of the Bi-Partisan Legislative Reappointment Committee of the Suffolk County Legislature.

His memberships have included the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, and the National Italian-American Lawyers Association. He has also been a member of Brooklyn Columbian Lawyers, Columbian Lawyers Suffolk County, and the Sons of Italy/John Bosco Lodge.
