Judge Vincent Ochoa - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Vincent Ochoa is a judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He was elected to the bench in 2010 and retained in 2014.

Ochoa received a B.A. in economics and political science from Michigan State University in 1975. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1978.

After law school, he clerked for the Hon. John F. Mendoza with the Eighth Judicial District Court.

Prior to his election to the bench, Ochoa worked as an attorney in private practice beginning in 1982. His areas of practice included personal injury, workers compensation, and immigration law. He entered the private sector after serving as a deputy attorney general with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office from 1980 to 1982.

During his time as a private practice attorney, Ochoa served as a public attorney with the Las Vegas Municipal Court (2002 to 2004 and 2006 to 2009). He also served as an alternate Municipal Court Judge for the City of North Las Vegas and a court-appointed arbitrator for the Eighth Judicial District Court.

While on the bench, he has presided on the Family Court.

He served on the Board of Directors for Southern Nevada Legal Services. Ochoa was also elected to the Nevada Bar Board of Governors and was an appointed member of the Nevada State Welfare Board. In 2017, Ochoa was appointed to the Nevada Permanent State Commission on Guardianship.
