Judge Andrew R. Hopper: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Andrew R. Hopper is a judge for the Madison County Circuit Court in Indiana. He was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas Newman, Jr.

Prior to his election, Hopper was a deputy prosecuting attorney for the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office, a position he held for eight years. During his tenure there, he developed an online warrant application system, which sped up the county’s warrant process.

Hopper earned a bachelor’s degree from Milligan College in 2005. He then completed a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 2008. He was admitted to the State Bar of Indiana in 2008.

His memberships have included the State Technology Committee of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council.

Born and raised in Madison County, Hopper attended Pendleton Heights High School. His father, the Hon. David Hopper (deceased), also served as a judge in Madison County. Hopper is married to Ashley Hopper, the former City Attorney for the City of Anderson.

He is registered as a Republican.
