Judge Arnoldo Cantu, Jr. - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Arnoldo Cantu, Jr. is a judge for the Hidalgo County Court at Law No. 5 in Texas. He was the first judge to preside over the County Court at Law No. 5, a position to which he was elected in 2002.

Prior to his election, Cantu was a sole practitioner in his own private practice in Pharr.

Cantu earned a B.S. from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1976. He worked as a teacher for the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (PSJA) Independent School District while attending law school, eventually completing his J.D. at the Reynaldo G. Garza School of Law in 1988.

After graduating from law school, Cantu entered into private practice in Edinburg. He then joined the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office, where he served as an assistant district attorney.

Cantu was raised in San Juan, Texas, and graduated from PSJA High School.

He is registered as a Democrat.
