Judge Arturo Castro: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Arturo Castro is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2015 by former Governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David M. Krashna (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Castro received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1995. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1998.

Castro began his legal career as a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office in 1999.

In 2006, he left the P.D.'s office to join Chang Mattern LLP were he worked as an associate for one year. Then, in 2007, Castro joined the Judicial Council of California's Office of the General Counsel. He worked briefly as an attorney in the Legal Opinion Unit before moving to the Rules and Projects Unit in November 2007. At the time of his appointment to the Superior Court, Castro was serving as a supervising attorney for the unit.
