Judge Barry F. Armata - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Barry F. Armata is a judge for the Tolland Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Dannel Malloy in 2017.

Prior to his appointment, Armata was a partner at Brown, Paindiris & Scott, a law firm located in Hartford. He practiced family law, specializing in mediations, collaborative law, domestic litigation, and arbitration. He has handled cases for veterans, victims of domestic violence, the elderly, and the LGBT community.

Armata earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and economics from Boston College in 1981. He then completed a J.D. at Syracuse University College of Law in 1983.

His memberships have included the Connecticut Bar Association and the Hartford County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the James W. Cooper Fellows Roundtable Program, the Connecticut Bar Foundation, the Suffield Juvenile Review Board, and the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools.

Raised in Suffield, Connecticut, Armata attended Suffield High School. He and his wife, Cheryl (an attorney at MassMutual), have two adult children.
