Biography

The Hon. Charles David Hood, Jr. (deceased) served as a judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Hood was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2014. He retired after losing the primary election for the seat in 2016.

The 7th Judicial Circuit encompasses Flagler County, Putnam County, St. Johns County, and Volusia County. Hood held assignments in the Family and Juvenile Divisions. He also presided over cases for the 7th Judicial Circuit's Drug Court.

Hood earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of South Carolina and completed his J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law.

After graduating from law school, Hood began his legal career as an attorney at Cobb & Cole, P.A in Daytona Beach. During his tenure there, he specialized in general litigation and appellate practice, rising through the ranks to become a managing partner. He remained with the firm until 1988, at which time he co-founded Smith, Hood, Loucks, Stout, Bigman & Brock, P.A., where he handled commercial litigation, insurance defense, general litigation, business and employment law. He served as the firm’s managing partner from 2000 to 2014.

His legal career was punctuated by various stints of public service. He served as a commissioner for the City of Ormond Beach (1992 to 1994), a Mayor for Ormond Beach (1994 to 1999), and a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, where he represented District 25 (2012 to 2014).

Hood was born in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and graduated from Alexandria Senior High School in 1972. As an avid musician, he was first chair clarinet and president of the Alexandria Senior High School Band.

He passed away on March 15, 2019.
