Biography

The Hon. Chinhayi C. Cadet is a judge for the San Mateo County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on July 9, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Mark R. Forcum.

Prior to her appointment, Cadet served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California. During her tenure there, she held assignments in the Criminal Division and the Civil Division.

Cadet earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University in 1994. She then completed a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center in 1997.

After graduating from law school, Cadet entered into private practice in Beverly Hills. She started as an associate at Hillsinger & Costanzo, eventually leaving to join Swerdlow Florence Sanchez & Rathbun in 1999.

Cadet was a resident of Redwood City, California, at the time of her appointment.

She is registered as a Democrat.
