Biography

The Hon. Cortland T. Corsones is a judge for the Vermont Superior Court. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor James Douglas in 2007, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Richard Norton.


Over the course of his judicial career, Corsones has held assignments in the Criminal, Civil, Family, and Probate Divisions of the Vermont Superior Court in Rutland County and Bennington County. He has also presided over the Rutland County Drug Treatment Court.


Corsones earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Dartmouth College in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at Cornell Law School in 1981. He is licensed to practice in Vermont (1981), the District of Columbia (1997), and North Dakota (1997).


After graduating from law school, Corsones entered into private practice in Rutland. He spent his entire legal career at Corsones & Corsones, handling criminal, civil, and family matters alongside his father, his brother, and his wife.


Born and raised in Rutland, Vermont, Corsones attended Rutland High School. He was a resident of Mendon, Vermont, at the time of his appointment. He and his wife, Therese, have three children.
