Biography

The Hon. Cynthia K. Swienton is a senior judge for the Middlesex Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Rowland in 1997.

Swienton has also presided over cases in the New Britain Judicial District.

Prior to her appointment, Swienton was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, a law firm she opened in 1995. During this time, she also served as an assistant clerk of the Connecticut House of Representatives (1994 to 1997).

Swienton earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Western New England University in 1978. She then completed a J.D. at Western New England Law School in 1981. She is admitted to practice in Connecticut (1981), the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts (1982), and Massachusetts (1982).

After graduating from law school, Swienton entered into private practice. She supplemented her practice with service as a hearing officer for the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

Her memberships have included the Board of Directors of My Sister’s Place and the Board of Directors of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
