Hon. David A. Pereda is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in December 2020. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Jon R. Rolefson (Ret.).
Pereda received a B.A. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2005.
While in law school, Pereda served as an extern to the Hon. Maria-Elena James with the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California.
He began his legal career as an associate at Filice Brown Eassa McLeod, LLP. In 2010, Pereda became a staff attorney at Nixon Peabody, LLP.
After three years with the firm, he then joined the City of Oakland, where he worked as a deputy city attorney until 2016. At the time of his departure from the City Attorney’s Office, he was serving as a senior deputy city attorney in its Litigation Division and also served as counsel to the Oakland Police Department.
Pereda became an Assistant U.S. Attorney assigned to the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California in 2016, before rejoining the Oakland City Attorney’s Office in 2018, this time working as special counsel until his appointment to the bench.
Pereda is a registered Democrat.
