Judge David J. Dacyczyn - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. David J. Dacyczyn is an associate justice of the Hampshire County Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2014. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Geoffrey A. Wilson (Ret.).

Dacyczyn also presided over the Probate and Family Court in Franklin County.

At the time of his appointment, he had served as the Hampshire County Probate and Family Court judicial case manager since 2012. Dacyczyn came to the position after working as an assistant judicial case manager in Franklin County for eleven years. Prior to that, he was a partner at Kuzmeski-Jackson & Dacyczyn, LLP (1997 to 2000) and an associate at Stobierski & Stobierski (1992 to 1997). During his tenure in private practice, he specialized in probate and family law, estate planning, and small business matters.

Dacyczyn attended Westfield State College, where he received a B.S. in criminal justice in 1982. He then completed an M.A. in political science and administration from Sam Houston State University (1985) and a J.D. from New England School of Law (1992). After obtaining his master’s degree, Dacyczyn worked for several years as a training coordinator and police academy director of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council (1985 to 1992).

He has served in the United States Navy Reserve since 1987. Dacyczyn was recalled to active duty with the Navy in 2001 and again in 2011 and held the ranks of Lieutenant Commander and Commander respectively. He was stationed at the Defense Intelligence Agency at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. during Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom (2001 to 2002) and was later mobilized in support of the Global War on Terrorism, serving as the Deputy Director for Task Force Biometrics in Bagram, Afghanistan (2011 to 2012). He holds the current rank of Captain.

His memberships include the Franklin County Bar Association, the Hampshire County Bar Association, and the Franklin County Bar Advocates, Inc. Dacyczyn also served as a committee member of the Probate and Family Guardianship Committee.

He was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, and resided in South Deerfield at the time of his appointment.
